Day 5
With rain in the weather report for tomorrow I decided to ride farther than planned to shorten that last leg. Went just under 75 miles.
Slept in a bit, until 7:30, I was well rested (my best Whoop recovery score of the trip). So it was worth putting the extra miles in today.
Things kicked off with a nice view of Dam Number 5 along the Potomac River.
After a few more miles, a stop at Doubleday Hill on my way to lunch in Williamsport. The hill is named after Abner Doubleday, credited with inventing baseball.
Lunch was at C&O Grill and Pub. I was the first one in when they opened and got the “C&O Inferno Burger".
After lunch was a rescue mission! Found this turtle right in the middle of the trail. Moved it over to the side with the river.
There was another detour today, but it was all roads instead of a mountain trail. Hilly roads, but nowhere near as arduous as yesterday's hike-a-bike.
After the detour I was rewarded with a nice paved riverside ride for a few miles.
The day ended rushing past Harpers Ferry to the next campsite one down from where I planned. It was a nice spot right along the bank of the river.
